My computers software is somewhat down at the moment, but I've come up with a makers mark on scratch pad..

I need a recommendation for a stencil maker...

I have no artwork to send them, can they work with what I have on paper and fine tune it from there?

I want to buy an etcher and want to stay in the middle of the road on this one, I don't want to have to buy twice so I'd like something decent...

the only thing I've ever etched has been concrete:) so I'm completely lost with this..

any help is much appreciated.....

thanks

Ernie Grospitch is who I've used, and I know a lot of makers here use him as well. I'm not sure how much of the art work he can do for you, but he makes a good stencil.

As for the machine, I built my own using some plans available on the internet. Otherwise, check out Tracy Mickley's products over at www.usaknifemaker.com. He has a whole exclusive line of etching products.

+1 for Tracy and Lora at USA Knifemaker. They've got what you need from making your own stencil to etching machines and supplies. Tracy has a good etching tutorial that is linked from the site.

Ernie all the way for the stencils. Great guy, great product.

If he can't do the artwork side of things for you, take a picture and send it to me and I'll see what I can do for you.

I've ordered from Ernie a couple of times, and he's really top notch. He did clean up a design for me a little bit on the last order. I also built a Crawford etcher (plans and instructions are on his Chris' website). It does work exceedingly well with Ernie's stencils.

 another Ernie user here, if you can Email him your Artwork he can work it out. The make your own stencil with a bic pen is not a decent option. I tried to do it a few times and was very dissapointed with the results.

I use a Personalizer etcher, you may want to go with the Personalizer Plus (Or get directions on how to up the power on your own) from USA Knifemaker.

Just don't get a personalizer plus from Jantz Supply, they took my money weeks ago and still no etcher! Usually they are a great place to buy from but I find it unethical to have an item on sale prominently and not have it in stock.

Ernie is the man! I also had a less than stellar experience with another company so I went searching on the forum. Found Ernies name, emailed him my mark, called him up and had it at my door in three days. He is a great guy and very affordable. A plus in my book... and, he makes some nice knives!

not kewl at all !!! sorry to hear that, if you want I can drive over there and throw a banana peel at the store front or something.. :D.. hope you get it resolved soon..

I've contacted Ernie few days ago, told me it was no prob to work with what I had sketched.. I don't want to try the bic pen as I have way to much occupying my time as it is, and no room at all for knives :(

I've got most of the stuff around here for my own etcher and have picked up other odds and ends, now I just need a transformer and I'm good ...... well that and time :D..
I've googled the etching process (should have before this thread), no where near complicated... for some reason I just thought it was work, this is a breeze man..

cant wait !!!

Interesting. My order was held there not because of my personalizer in my order but 2 sizes of blade steel out of stock and blue dykem not being allowed to be shipped to Canada. I only found out because I emailed them first... wonder what would have happened if I waited. Oh well, postal strike means I won't get it any time soon anyways lol

Back on topic... Show us your logo when Ernie gets it how you like man, would love to see it!
