Generally makers marks are on blade. I usually put my mark on spine. But I do not necessarily want put any mark on blade, because it may break the perfect shape of the blade. So, if I put my mark on finger guard, is it a bad idea ? Have you noticed that customers may have some objections if the position of the makers mark is something else than the blade?

My buddy marks the butt cap. I have seen several knives marked on the guard edge, and have done it myself occasionally.

I usually put it on the top rim centered with the spine. On an oval guard dagger, I did put it on the side of the guard rim.
On a longer name, you could mark the side and put your city/state on the other side.
I would not mark the front of the guard.

Let’s see this perfectly shaped blade.

I have seen the stamps done on the underside of the guard before. Especially when it is a flat oval guard with a flat surface on the bottom. That way it is fairly out of sight.
