Ricasso or no?

I like the mark on the blade. Some makers have discrete (small marks) that look good on the ricasso. I guess it depends on your mark, size, and knife design. That's the fun of making your own knife, you get to use some design liberty and make your "best guess" choice. I suppose that if you follow your instinct it will look good. Try to choose the location that looks the most "natural". You want it as an enhancement to the design, not the main point of interest.

Ever since I first saw Loveless knives and his distinctive logo placed on the blades of his knives I noticed many good makers at the same time were doing the same thing and It just looks like the right place to put them to me. If you stamp your steel then it looks good on the ricasso right in front of the guard like many manufactured knives but most custom knives seem to be etched on the blade. There are no rules that I have seen so the maker should exercise his freedom if he wants and put his mark wherever he likes. My opinion is that this looks good. Larry

considering that ricasso area on your knife is actually part of the grip when choking up on the knife, I wouldnt put it there.

Personally I'd say ricasso on this knife since the ricasso has a good bit of real estate.

I think Michael nailed it here. If my logo was small and compact on that particular knife I would put in on the ricasso in a heartbeat. Best to you-whichever way you go will be good!!

My makers mark is not too big so I always place it on the ricasso but I have put it on the blade before so it's your preference on that.

It's all personal preference. I have two maker's marks that I use on occasion, an "AR" like my avatar, and a small 'A.Riley' with whatever steel I'm using listed underneath. The AR will usually go on the blade, though sometimes I'll put it on a ricasso. Most smaller blades and folders don't get it at all. I'll always at least put the A.Riley and steel type somewhere. Most often it will be on the ricasso, though I've also put it on the spine of the handle or even in the pommel area.

i mirror wildernessknife&tool's comment. i like both, but the ricasso wll look even more naked and large with the mark on the blade.

I went with the blade mark. Mostly since I was on the fence and was having trouble with my etch. That may change going forward as I just ordered a personalizer. When I handle this knife I am thinking the finger choil will be used most of the time for detail work. With the option to choke back for more rough/ difficult cutting tasks. Thanks for the input.
