some of the old(er) Busse blades appear to have the mark stamped into the steel, whereas the new(er) one are all (I think) laser etched. is this right?

for example, this (taken from a for sale ad) looks stamped:

if in fact this is true, at what point did Busse go from stamped to etched?

do stamped blades have to be, well, stamped, before heat treating them?

can a modern, heat-treated, blade be stamped?

can/will the shop do such things any more? anyone else?

just a curiosity... as I happen to prefer the deeper, bolder, stamped marks.

thanks.

To answer one of your questions...I do not believe it's do-able to stamp a heat treated blade.

The stamped Busses were very old school. Original ASH era.

Now if you could answer my question.....

Where the freak is that for sale???

For sale ad?

Where?

that particular knife, THE Silent Knight Proto (according to the owner), is in the Busse classifieds here. I happened to be looking through a bunch of the posts and it caught my eye. neat knife and a cool story (I have no affiliation, btw).

DDM, are you sure that's stamped and not acid etched? The top edges of the "Busse" part of the mark do look banged in, but the rest of the mark looks more like an acid etching than a stamping. I'm pretty sure Jerry used a lot of acid etchings back in his earlier years. Nice knife and pic by the way.

Stamped? Etched? Who cares man... where do I get a INFI bottle opener?!!! SOOOOOOWEEEEEEET!!!!!!!!
