Makers marks

Hi folks ! I have a question for you all. So I have a customer online who requested to have my makers mark on the other side, not the presentation side.. this person has also offered to help build a website for free.. I’m kind of a trusting individual, but are these possible warning signs of trouble to come ? Lol.. also, would you send the knife with your mark on the proper side or abide by their request ?
Thanks !

If you don't know the person, I would be weary of them making you a website. I would be weary of them all together b/c of the website comment. However ignoring that, I personally would have no problem putting the maker's mark on one side or another if the customer asked.

He might be left handed or want to have the knife stand somewhere with the logo on the backside.
If somebody would ask me that I'd do it.

What the proper side for a logo is, is an ongoing discussion.
Some say it should be visible when you hold it in your dominant hand, others say it should be on the other side because you know what knife you hold and you want other people to see what knife it is.
And then there is the third way, sometimes I mark the spine (full tang between the scales)

Ok thanks for the feedback guys. I will put the mark wherever he wants.

to thine own self be true
if you don't know this person...well, sounds sketchy to me and I've had my share of rodeos
did they say why they wanted it somewhere you have already chosen not to put it?

No he was vague about it. He paid in full upfront which I think is kinda suspicious too lol. I’m a paranoid dude sometimes..

just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you

I'd want to figure out why someone might want my mark on the opposite side to my usual, and all the reasons I can think of point to answers which may be very bad for my brand...unless you want to mark both side, (not a terrible idea) I'd refund the money and walk away from this one, under the circumstances you described

Why not have the customer identify himself, have a skype talk and/or draft a short contract for the website and knife work?

Haha, interesting.. thanks for your input man

oh, and one other thing about website 'creators'- you don't need one! Wordpress is a great way to get started, since you can start totally free and as you add more functions, (like online store) you start to pay. It's a friggin deep rabbit hole, but a great way to maintain complete control over your domain and learn something easily enough which will essentially make you money

if a stranger offers to make you a website- be warned!

in my experience, putting even historically trustworthy people in charge of your website can introduce significant problems down the road

Cheers!

thanks Lorien I really appreciate that 🙏🏼
Do they do domain registration and hosting as well ?

you'll have to check but I think so

ask them for examples of websites they have already made, so you can check them out. . usually when someone mentions something free when they are the ones coming to you for something, (a knife) many times they assume you will give them some kind of discount because of their offering, which in most cases never materializes after the deal is completed. seems fishy.
