Have been looking for makers that offer blade blanks to finish.
A lot of the stuff that is out there offered by the retailers is stuff made in India or china.
Contacted one maker, yet to get back to me about the final work up. Don't want the oversees crapola, just wondering if anyone would have any suggestions they would offer up.
Reason I am doing this, is I don't know if I want to go full blown stock removal and send it off or forge myself.
Have re-handled and want to take it slow maybe get a few more of those under my belt before I attempt the whole enchilada.
Thanks

Get yourself some 1/8" 1084. You should be able to cut that to shape with relatively simple tools and file in the bevels. It is eutectoid so you should also be able to heat treat it yourself with a basic set up. Aside from that, someone will likely be along shortly to offer you a blank.

The Exchange regularly has blanks for sale.

Several knife suppliers sell USA blanks, too.

Jantz has high quality stuff that I believe they make in-house, in the US of A. I haven't used their blanks myself, but I've heard great things from those who have. Should be exactly what you're looking for.

Otherwise, as Marc said, get some steel just make them yourself. Sometimes diving in head first is the way to go... I think it'll be easier than you think. If it's heat treat scaring you off, I'm sure someone here would be more than happy to help you with that for a knife or two... otherwise, the pros are fantastic to deal with and not all that expensive.

Contacted RW Wilson. For this one I am going with him. I traded back in the summer for one of his knives. Stupid sharp, and excellent quality. Eventually, I am going to have to take the plunge, working on getting a few things at a time to set me up a little bit before I go head first.
Price of anvils is crazy, got a line on some railroad track, thinging about putting a couple of pieces together and welding them, then crossing one end with some 1/2 stock, its and idea anyway.

Nothing wrong with just doing stock removal. Forging is just another "tool" to add to your knifemaking arsenal at a later date.

I used an old piece of track for an anvil as well until I found a nice one. If you just plan on bladesmithing, Google up some "post anvils" people made. Will probably be your best bet if you're looking to make one. Has all the "parts" of an anvil you need for bladesmithing, and it'll work a lot better for you than a piece of rail.
