hey guys,i was wondering if anyone could tell me of some makers who use a2?i know alot of makers use 01 here, but i have no experience with it and sounds to act more like a simple carbon rather than a tool alloy.i might be wrong about that so if you have experience with both(01 and a2) lets here it. i had a bravo 1, and as i couldn't warm up to the blade thickness, the edge holding was outstanding and the steel was incredibly tough, which are my two most important factors when looking for an outdoors blade. any input on a2,a2 makers or 01 vs a2 would be great:thumbup:

Scott Gossman uses A2, and I will higly recommend him!

I have had both and I can't tell the difference other then O1 tends to patina quicker..

You can get a Skookum Bushtool in A2. Bark River makes tons of thinner more Bushcrafty style knive as well in A2.

Thanks Tony. ;) I almost work exclusively with A2 now. I still work with O1, D2 and CPM154/154CM but it seems like A2 has taken over.
It has become my favorite carbon tool steel especially after years of beating on it. It takes a fine edge, holds it well and is extremely tough.

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but since we are comparing 01 and A2, How do they compare in ease of sharpening?

Is A2 much more difficult to sharpen then 01 or 1095?

If you have some sharpening skills A2 id no problem. A2 is a great steel and Bark River makes plenty of A2 knives that should make you happy.

Take a look at Dmitry. M at knifemakers section. I think he uses a lot of A2. And Pohan Leu A2 amazed me also:).

Horton knives is one of the best a2 knives money can buy and his costumer service is the best I have ever seen
