OK, here is the idea. Some makers (probably most successful makers) have developed a "unique" look, either because they use a given solution over and over again, or because they have a more subtile signature look that makes their work recognizable, most of the time. Who are the makers you can recongize in a heart beat, and how?
Here is my list:
- Rob Hudson - octogonal handle, walnut, sweeping designs, many specific multi-bar damascus patterns, including the famous "flame edge";
- Larry Fuegen - uniquely sculpted knives;
- Barry Davis - Typical file worked bolsters on his folders (other knives are not so easy to recognize for me);
- Don Fogg - More subtil, and definitely not a 100% success rate, but there's clearly a "Fogg look". Much easier to recognize in the case of textured blades, esp. damascus. Some damascus patterns I've never seen elsewhere (feather,...)
- Jerry Fisk - for his most recognizable patterns, such as bowies, etc. However, he has inspired a large number of makers. Plus, many of his 1-of-a-kind would be hard for me to recognize.
- Tai Goo - Unique, although he's done a lot of very different stuff, and I've not seen so many of them so...
- Scott Slobodian - Unique treatment of the Jpz blade theme. His fantasy stuff is also pretty unique.
- D'alton Holder - for his stacked handles. Other models I would probably not recognize.
- Tom Mayo - TNT only - He's done a lot of other types of knives I would not recognize.
- Bill Moran - pretty unique style.
