I, like hopefully all of you, have had a great day with the family. Hot dogs, playing with the kids, setting off fireworks, and too much food.

I kept checking the forum...waiting to see where the message would come from, but didn't see it happen...so I guess it's my turn.

To *ALL* of our Fathers and Mothers, Uncles and Aunts, cousins, brothers, sisters, friends, *strangers*...and in my case especially, my VNV M/C BROTHERS...those still with us, those lost in combat, those still being held as Prisoners Of War...

THANK YOU

FOR ALLOWING *US*
TO HAVE THIS
HAPPY INDEPENDANCE DAY

Good show, Nasty. Heartily seconded. Thanks to all who have come before, and are still serving.

Happy 4th.

Thanks Nasty for this post. After church I was too emotional to start anything and will probably start the tears all over now. I am reminded of Sarge and all his guys, my best friends son in Fallujah and all the others that are over there now. And I'm especially appreciative of all those who have served in the past. Mostly guys, but yesterday I wasn't the only lady to stand when they asked the vets to stand and that was kind of nice.(unfortunately this was my first church that i wasn't the only female vet....where are alll the others)

So thanks to all of you out there for all you have done. We do indeed live in a very great country and I hope we can fight in whatever way it takes to keep it this way.

NEVER, NEVER DISARM....THAT IS THE KEY TO OUR FREEDOM!!!!!!!!

Just think how nice it would be if every prick who wants to break into our houses or bomb our landmarks knew we were all armed and dangerous!!

Amen brothers and sisters.

My sincere thanks and admiration to all who have served and are serving now.

I am not American, but I've been living in USA for the past three years. I came for my Master’s Degree and I was lucky enough to find a job after graduation. I am from Spain, and before you jump on me, no, I do not agree with the behaviour of my government. You don’t fold in front of terrorism. We had not done that in 45 years of conflict with the Basque separatist group ETA and we should not do it now.
There is something I love about your country, and it is the pride you have on your nation, your flag, your constitution and your institutions. The fact that whenever your flag unfolds and your national anthem begins everyone stands to attention and sings it. The fact that you are proud of been American and proud of being proud of it!
I was watching Reagan’s Funeral on TV with and a foreign friend of mine, (yes, he was French, but that is another story) came in and caught me chocking. He ask me why was I chocking and I told him that there were three reasons. The first was that I admired what Ronald Reagan did and I was sad for his death and for the suffering on his family. The second reason was the pride shown by the whole nation on the ceremony. The third reason was much close to my heart and more difficult to explain simply.
I see the flags, I see people singing the national anthem, the uniforms and the pride of the nation, and I fill ashamed. Ashamed because I can not do the same in my own nation, ashamed that I can not show my pride on my own nation, and I can tell you that writing this there are tears in my eyes. If I were back in Spain and I where to put a national flag, proud of the red and yellow and the eagle and the crown on my front porch, I will be automatically branded as a Nazi supporter. If I where to say that I am proud of the history of my nation, I will be accused of being a colonialist and accused of the bloodshed of the natives in the colonies. If I where to sing the Spanish national anthem, I could not, because an surprisingly as It might seem, our anthem has no lyrics. Yup, we can not sing our prise for our nation. We in Spain can only hum our anthem. I am really ashamed of that. The history is simple but incredible for a “modern” European nation. the Spanish anthem was composed on late nineteenth century, and yes, it had lyrics, it was named “El Himno de Riego”, Riego been the President during the Second Republic. Let’s move to 1936, and Francisco Franco begins the Spanish Civil War and wins with the support of Nazist Germany and Fascist Italy. Naturally, the lyrics of the national anthem were changed into a praise of Franco. ¨Fast forward to the death of Franco and the new democracy in 1975. Members of all political parties got together to draft a new Constitution. The talks stalled on the national anthem, and the right wing parties threatened to leave the procedures if franco’s lyrics where changed or the Himno de Riego approved. Final results, no lyrics.
Sorry for the rumblings, and thanks to America and to you all for all what you have done for the nations of the world. You have saved our skin two or three times even if we like it or not.

Best wishes and happy birthday,

Teo

Teo, we're happy to have you here. I'm sorry that's the way it has to be for you, but I'm glad that you feel comfortable enough here on the forum and in America to say what you feel. :)

Teo, Thanks for posting. I never knew that and I think more people here need to really realize what we really have. Should be a good lesson today for the daughter. Thanks.

Ya folks!

Teo, sorry to hear abt the stuff inn Spain, I'd love to visit that country. Hang in there, man! You may be an immigrant that doesn't know it yet! Most of us are immigrants here.

Keith

Thanks Y'all!
I lurk more than post, but if there is a forum where I like to be is this one. Love you all.

Teo

Teo have strength and perserver. As a son of immigrants, I can relate to how things happen, lives change. One will always love their motherland, but sometimes new paths open. What you have stated in you posts, is more American than what has been felt by many of those who can trace their lineage many generations back. What makes America great, is that you do not shed who you are to become part of this country, but that you embrace what you have to offer and meld it into the fabric that is America. Whether you stay or leave, your ideals are what we all should strive for. Have faith, and stay steadfast.
