Making 4th of July Memories W/ a Swiss Champ

I usually baby my Swiss Champ. The champ is my prized possession. I have kept it in pristine condition over the years. If I know I am going to need a multi for hard use I will pack my SOG powerlock or Wave. Well over the weekend I had to repair a hole the kids put in the sheetrock(old water damage) while playing. I got down on the floor to begin the job. I needed to cut out the bad sheetrock and reached for the tool on my belt. Well I forgot I was wearing my Swiss Champ. I dunno why but I decided that it was about time I put a little use on the Champ. Maybe it was the July weekend or the way I read how other knifenuts can tell when and where the different dings were put on the tools they have carried for years. I thought it was time to make some memories with the old champ. I tell you what, that virgin saw blade ripped through the sheet rock with ease. I had to replace some of the water damaged molding and the saw made quick work of that also. Over the weekend the scissors opened up clamshell packaging and the fishscaler/ruler was used to take a couple of snap measurements. When everything was said and done I cleaned the Gypsum dust off the old champ as best I could. I did not notice any appreciable new marks on the knife but I am sure I will open one of the tools in the future and smile when I see some of that white dust that surely is hiding somewhere in the champ. My pampered companion of several years was pressed into services and it rose to the occasion. I am lucky to own several great multitools as they are things I have been collecting regularly over the years. I must say that out of all of them the champ sees the most carry time. I think that this is because it has an elegance of design that the other tools don’t have. You can pretty much get an idea of the capabilities of other multitools in one glance but the champ is more complicated and draws your attention longer. I also think it is because that the Swiss Champ has always been around and as a small boy it was the first multitool I drooled over and swore I would own someday. I like to imagine that my son who currently is 11 months old will be carrying his old dads champ on his belt someday, that is if Americans still have the liberty to carry a pocket knife about their person 18-20 years from now.

I own several Champs, and an XLT, which is a regular p/o my weekend edc. I use them all, and quite heavily.

The oldest one was purchased sometime in the late 1980s and is still one of my favorites. I kept upgrading only because there were new and different options being added.

They are definately made to be used - I am glad you put yours into hard service - you wont regret it.

I usually carry a Swiss Champ everyday as well. I use it for any number of tasks throughout the day. It is reliable and trusted. It has never produced any negative comments when openly put into service. I can justify possessing it for each of its 33 implements, including some additional uses. I have a standard red one, about 10,11 years old, that is my edc. Also I have a hunter-green scaled one that I don't carry and a hardwood scaled one that gets occasional pocket time. By the way, does anyone know if there are any Stayglow scales made that have the slot for pin and pen? Might be my next Swiss Champ or just a scale change once I totally mush up my red ones.
