Ok I want to make a belt grinder. I think I will set it up with a pully drive system with the power to the contact wheel. then have a idler on the end (no triangle setup). I think I will make the idler myself out of aluminum. what kind of bearings should the wheels have? some one told me some kind but I forgot what it was. should I buy a contact wheel? I have read about people making them out of wood is this good or bad or just insane? If I cant make a wheel out of wood who should I buy it from? grizzly? or someone else? what kind of belt speeds should I shoot for? I want to be able to be versitile with my grinder and I hope to do any kind of grind humanly possable on it when I want to. My plan was to make the frame out of square tubing and use threaded rod for the axles maybe with brake line on top to reduce wear. what do you think? do I have a chance in hell of this working? or am I just a nut job?
Bryce oh yeah I might just go buy th grizzly grinder cuz i am lazy

I have two that I`ve made, not that hard.
Got around $400 in the two. I would buy
the contact wheels, you can get them from
Grizzly. I think the 8in is about $30 an
the 10in $60. I have the 8in it`s not the best
but it works. Pullys I would get from Rob, they
will give you the speeds you need.

I noticed Robs pulleys are more expensive then what I can get them localy are robs pulleys more balanced? do I need pulleys that are really balanced or not?
Bryce thanks for the help

Yes Robs are balanced. I`m going to get some
for my grinders when i get them rebuilt.
You get what you pay for. The ones you are talking
about will not run true

thats what I figured should here is the plan
grizzly 8" contact wheel
the pulley setup from Rob hopefully if I can swing it
jacobson V-belt
bearings from B.C. bearings or maybe princess auto not sure on the size yet
threaded rod for axles
rectangular tube
some angle iron or i will bend some steel for wheel holder things not sure what to call them
drill press to drill out the sliding area a spring to tension it
this will take some more time and thinking to get it perfect but I may have it set in my mind
nuts bolts and a welder to smack it together

Sounds like a plan, but I`m not sure that the
threaded rod will run true for you. But hey
give it a shot Bubba

I figure If they suck i will toss them or get some other rod from the begining but i dont know what I could use that would be true
