Making a file

Has anyone ever successfully made a file? I had the stupid idea that I wanted to make a Damascus carriers rasp, then make a Bowie from it. I know, stupid idea, right?

I attempted it once, Used a sharp hot cut and tried to cut in the teeth. did not work out so we, but maybe it was because it was trying to make a file out o D2 lol

I have seen videos of it being done. The steel was worked cold, with a flat punch, then hardened.

I too have seen several videos. My favorite are by Clickspring. He started with mild steel, formed the teeth, then case hardened them. It's absolutely worth watching if you've got the time.

i worked at a factory that made files for several years the rasp teeth were cut one at a time on machines and used specially ground tool bits to get the right angle and shape of tooth

It is best video clip I ever watch ... amazing skills .He use some tricks which we can use in knife making
