Making a handle and hanging a head video

Looks to me like he did a really nice job. A guy like that is much more interested in swinging the hammer than hanging it and I expect he'd do it differently if it didn't work. I think those cone wedges are better in terms of not breaking the handle apart. I just removed two of them from two blacksmith hammers and they are by far easier to get out than the stepped wedges. They aren't nearly as deep and they are smooth like the one used in the video. To me, it seems they are intended to spread just the wood at the top portion of the eye, which is needed for hammers more than for axes I think.

I also noticed he talked about how to drive the wedge and that is exactly what I have learned by doing it wrong a number of times. It does seem to work much better to hold the hammer/axe in one hand and drive the wedge with the other. Just need a hammer with the surface area to hit the entire wedge and the excellent accuracy that guy possesses.
