Hello all,

I have stained/decorated the handle that came with my CS pipe hawk and don't really want to use it for throwing practice. Plus if/when that handle does break I would like to have experience making a new handle with what I have around. I have a table saw, band saw and belt sander so thinking of just going into my back yard and finding a small tree to make some practice handles with. However, not sure what type of wood to use (I am in Georgia) or how to align the grain or if there is treating I need to do to the wood once I cut/shape it. Anyone know of a good thread or other resource online to help as a tutorial for this?

Secondly I threw knives when I was much younger but never had a hawk before getting this one. Anyone suggest a good tutorial or video on youtube on learning how to do this?

Thanks for the info!

throwing a tomahawk is easy. you don't need a tutorial video. just set up your target and move back about 15 feet, then let 'er go. you'll get the hang of it pretty darned quickly, I can almost guarantee you. The only tip I would offer that some folks don't get immediately is to keep a loose grip and just let the 'hawk slide out of your hand at the release point. Don't grip it hard and then un-grip. Just let it slide out of your hand.

Handles......well, I can't offer much there.

Have fun, and be careful.
