Hi, I had a browse through the forum, but as I am new to this I am having a hard time finding any specifics on Shaping a bar of titanium into a knife. Maybe Someone here could give me some tips or references to some resources that might help.

Forge. Preferably vacuum or argon atmosphere. And most likely poor results. Do not overheat it without shielding gas or your piece will burn like a firework. Really HOT and dangerous.

Have you thought of talking to a therapist about this problem that makes you want to do very difficult things.
Seriously, for the average maker, the only way is stock removal. It won't be easy, and the sparks will try to burn down your shop (and may well succeed). It will be like grinding on a lit sparkler. For most people it is not worth the belts and time as well as the lung health risks and eye damage (sparks give off UV).Why did you want titanium, anyway? It won't stay sharp long.Only real advantage is weight and non-corrosion.

This is definitely one of the Top 100 questions that novices ask here.

Ti makes a lousy knife. Period. It may make a lightweight single-use knife, but its just not a great blade material.

Hey, thanks for the replies guys :)

It sounds way behond my abilities, the reason I asked was because my friend gave me some offcut, probably the perfect amount for a decent knife, I had a hard time finding specifics on turning it into something so I resorted to asking in a forum(which I rarely do, I love being a lurker ;) )

What about cold forming? I formed an edge to see how maliable it is, it'd be a pain, but maybe I could form it that way? Or would it stress the titanium too much?

Thanks again for the replies, you've all saved me hours and hours of digging around for scraps of info i might not have found otherwise.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I think i'll keep the titanium to show friends and guests, and play around with steel if I want to make a knife (was going to do anyway)

You guys have been so helpful, I think i'm going to stick around see what else I can learn here.
