Can someone tell me how they do a knife, from that they gone past the planning part ? What gear do I need to get started? Is it hard?

Knife making is a skill and an art and if you really want to get into it will require some tools.

I suggest you try a kit first to see if you really like rolling your own.

A great place to start is knifekits.com

You can make a knife out of hand tools, but it takes patience. Here is a link to some tutorials on knifemaking: Tutorials

You also might post some questions in the "Shoptalk" section.

If you know nothing about knifemaking pick up wayne goddards book the $50 knife shop it will help get you started. As far as your particular (broad) question there are too many things, particulars, ect. to try to go through it here at the moment.

As far as power tools, I use just about everything from a bandsaw, to a belt grinder, to a bench grinder to a drill press, buffing wheel, wire wheel, ect.

I think I read somewhere that Warren Osborne made his first knife with a file. I don't know if that meant he used a file to remove stock from a bar of steel or if the file was his blade steel. Actually, I don't remember if I read it or if I was clicking an Osborne Benchmade, fell asleep, and dreamt it.

However, get that $50 knife shop book and read it several times. Then curse yourself for rereading it when you could have been making a knife.

Hi there,
I'm a beginning knife-maker and my first couple of knives were made only with some files and a hacksaw. With a lot of patience and skill, they'll come out just like they were made with fancy equipment. Right now I have a small Craftsman drill press, a Craftsman 2x42 belt sander and a bunch of files and sandpaper. My only vise right now is a small 4" model. I'm glad to be starting off so small, it gives me the chance to hone my skills and see if I really want to commit to a $1000 plus grinder or bandsaw.
