Making a Leather Baldric (pic heavy)

After seeing the posts recently on baldrics I decided to try estelas tutorial on a paracord setup, but couldnt get the knots neat and even. The rigs I ended up with would definately do the job but werent much on the eye, so I decided to have a go at making a leather version. I liked the look of the sharpshooter setup, but after fiddling around with a pattern for the shoulder pad I decided it wasnt needed so left it out and just joined the two straps together at the shoulder with a chicago screw. The total project took about an hour and a half. I like the sturdiness of the leather over the paracord, especially the fact I could attach a pouch. The downside of the leather is when you take it off it isnt very compact. I am going to try making one with leather thong, this might offer a decent compromise between sturdiness and bulk.

Heres what I started with, two pre-cut belt strips, an offcut, leather dye, chicago screws, drill and sak recruit. I also used a ruler and piece of paper, hopefully you dont need a photo to picture those.

This is the connection of the straps, which sits on top of the shoulder. Originally born out of laziness, it seems to work well:

Finished, undyed rig which shows the chicago screws put in for size adjustment:

Not the best pic and not sitting properly, but you get the idea:

And some pics of the blade, because this is a forum for knives, not half-arsed leatherwork goddammit! BRKT Gameskeeper II:

Im really liking the baldric, it is a great way to carry a knife. Until now fixed blades have always ended up attached to or inside my pack as they piss me off on my belt.

Cheers

Great pics and it looks very functional. I will need to make one of these guys for sure.

Excellent pics. I will be trying this out. I braided a baldric for one of my knives, using just a simple braid and I really like to carry the knife with it. Your set up is even more comfy looking. Thanks!

Great job, Andrew.

You know what they say, "Once you go Baldric, you never go back!" or something like that. :D

That looks excellent and a nice dye job to match your sheath. I was pretty lazy on my rig. I just grabbed the old SLR camera strap off my film camera (no longer used) and hook them the belt loop. For my kydex sheathed knife, I hange it upside down which positions the handle where I like it.

Of course, yours looks much better!

or you can go up to Knives Ship Free. com and get one made by sharpshooter for Bark River.

You know thats soo true its not even funny, as soon as my #4 gets back out here I know what Im doing.

Very nice!!!! I would take some "finger nail clippers" and remove any pointie corners to reduce snags/ hang ups. Great job! M

I like that a lot! I think even a guy like me could pull something like that off! It looks a bit less complex than I was thinking it would be. -Matt-

Do you like your Games Keeper ll, I just placed an order two days ago on Knivesshipforfree.com.
