Making a Micro-Bevel with the Sharpmaker

On this knife, I had freehanded a 22 degree inclusive primary bevel, which meant that I could micro-bevel at 30 degrees on the Sharpmaker. Used the ultra-fine rods (the red-tipped, optional rods) and stropped with 1 micron Dia-Paste.

Thanks M for sharing. I think the Spyderco Sharpmaker is unbeatable for sharpkeeping. I just love the consistency of the bevels coming of the sharpmaker. The only thing I still struggle with is the tip area on knives that have quite a belly. You can not "reach" the tip area on the rods unless you move the handle of the knife inwards (just like moving up the handle when freehanding). Did you notice that too? I am surprised that I have not seen that issue being addressed more often. And, I agree, you have to strop, otherwise you will have a burr (likely very tiny) after the microbevel cut in.

Hi, Andy. Yup, I move the handle in a bit toward the tip, just like a regular stone. I made a video earlier of reprofiling a knife with the diamond rods, but realistically I don't think that's a good use of the Sharpmaker. It is indeed a "Sharpkeeper" in my opinion. :D
