Making a Police grippy

any suggestions? I don't want to use the tape method, I would prefer a permanent solution. I have cut 20 semicircular grooves into the handle with a very small circular file they are about the diameter of a toothpick but they offer a very secure grip on the knife with the 4 fingers of my right hand. I don't want to jimp the hump of the blade or the lock, mostly because my files would not cut the aus-6 of a kershaw vapor 2, I doubt they will be very effective on VG-10.

any other methods of making this great knife grippier?

thanks

Pete-

You could use the "engine turning" technique. You take a small circular steel brush drill bit that fits into your drill press you can make circular patterns very easily. Depending on how course the wire is it should rough up the scales in an attractive and reflective pattern and make it grippy.

Here's what it looks like.

I'm assuming you have the stainless scale model.

Here's a link from that guy's page of a company that specializes in doing that to Spydercos. http://www.angelfire.com/sports/customjewelshop/knifepage.html
Pretty interesting. The knives look cool and it's definitely worth a look.

DGG and Laceration- Interesting but how grippy is that as opposed as decorative? I would only want the non clip side of the scale done, and even then only at the contact points for my fingers.

Kryosphinx- no.

Ryan8- If I can find a checkering file I might just give that a try.

You can use an electric engraving pencil, and stipple the handle. It's easy once you get the hang of it.

It has to be grippier (is that a word) than the smooth surface. Again it will depend on how course the wire wheel is. You can get into engraving but that will require substantial amounts of time.

A cheap and easy way to make grips would be to mark lines on the knife and with a hacksaw carefully take off a little steel. I would use a miter box arrangement for this. It would be fast and definately grippy. You could reverse the pattern and get diamonds (sort of redneck checkering).
