Making a spring from 1080??

thinking about making a fullering spring. so i heat and quench the same as i would a blade? what temperature to temper at and how long at that temp for a good durable spring?

I make a lot of springs for flint and percussion locks and heat treat as follows.
First we heat and quench in oil just like a knife and then we temper 1095 rolled steel at 750 f or if the springs are cast 1095 we temper at 825 f.
I always leave the springs in the oven over night after I shut off the power to cool as slow as possable
Good luck

I think the 1095 makes a better spring than 1080. I heat mine in a high-temp salt bath and quench in warm oil and temper to 680 F. It is really easy to overheat a thin spring with a torch thus growing the grain in spots and creating a spring that will break sooner or later.
