I have seen some really tight joints with no gaps on a lot of your all's blades. Please share some of your techniques on how you do it for the Newbie thanks.

Are you talking about how to fit a guard in a hidden tang?

Oops, I guess Laredian already asked that. Sorry. (Slow down billyO)

Yes in regards to fitting a guard to a blade on a hidden Tang. Thanks so much for your patience and understanding and help I got some reading to do.

I remember one of the old ABS guys teaching a Handles and Guards class up at Bill Moran's place. He asked, "Are your drill bits round or square?" Everyone replied, "Round." He then asked, "Then why do you make your tang with 90 degree sharp corners?" He went on to explain that radiusing the tang edges in an arc will easily fit into the end of a slot drilled with a round drill and filed with a round file. He said to spend all your time on the sides of the tang and slot.

It's all in my video above.

Yes, a file guide........and hand files with safe edges! All of this has been covered before. Keep reading different sources and you will stumble upon all the secrets. Also, get yourself a surface plate or thick piece of glass. A VERY FLAT surface is critical to either check or create flat mating surfaces so parts go together without gaps.

Another source for this is if you have a granite counter top place within driving distance. They usually have scraps (cut outs, broken tops, etc) that they give away for free as opposed to paying for the garbage men to take 'em. You can usually find one big enough to do the job.
