I have an old, worn out ball glove that I've torn apart. I planned to use some of the leather to try to make a pocket slip for a traditional folder. Can I use part of the leather (pretty sure it's cowhide) to make a strop? If so, do you recommend finished side up or rough side up for the strop? Thanks!

No harm in trying it. Leather is highly variable; you might try both the smooth side and the rough, and see which you like better. I've often liked using the rough side with compound (often holds/embeds the compound better), and save the smooth side for bare-leather stropping (no compound).
