I took out one of my smallest fixed blades today and decided to put it to work making a swamp spear for getting frogs, fish, snakes etc !

I used the knife beaver style to get my spear shaft:

I then battoned the little blade to make my two cross splits:

I then split up some Cedar root to make some cordage:

Here she is all sharpened and finished up, I actually think some tasks such as this are easier with a smaller blade !

I made something similar a few days ago. Just used 550 and not natural cordage. Pretty fun to make.

I always get a big smile readin' your posts pit. I like that cedar cordage too, I been practicing my bark cordage, um, yeah, not so good yet. Either way, that pic of the "waiting" is still making me chuckle. Good stuffe, brother, good stuff. Moose

Nice job, bro. I'm thinkin frog legs tonight! I like makin those kinda spears, too. Never tried natural cordage

Nice. I especially like that you did it with natural cordage. Remind me, what's the length of that blade again?

G'day Pit

I take it by the thickness of the prongs & lack of barbs, your intending to pin the target to the botton & use your hands to secure it to the spear when you lift it out of the water?

Kind regards
Mick

I guess so Mick, I've not yet found any frogs when I have a spear made !:(
