Making a Sword

I have been thinking about (but putting off) making a sword for quite some time. I plan on grinding it out of 5160.

I know I'll need to build a longer quench tank. What else should I be aware of before starting this endevor? I would like it to be like a saber, with a curve to the blade. Any suggestions?

How many people out there have made swords - and how did they turn out?
