Making and fitting Handles for Half Tang Knives

Am really new to this hobby of making/restoring knives. Have a half-tang knife that needs a new handle. Any suggestions as to how to proceed? Would like to use wood (cocobolo or rosewood) Should I use scales or a solid block? Any other suggestions as to how I should do this. No laughter please. I said that I was really new at this.

1. Use a solid block of wood.
2. Go to the bookstore or Library and get a book or two on knifemaking. This will help you get started.
