I like to try make blade using big coarse 10" file. Of course flat or convex grind.

I have triangular base for sharpening where I put diamond stone and wood brick with leather and diamond powder. Now I put 10" coarse file on it and using same sharpening moves but with different angle I try to grind blade?

Does anybody tried it? I know Jacques Jobin making his blade with flle, but I do not know how.

Any suggestions?

Of course this is hobby ad I have planty of time to meditate this way...

Thanks, Vassili.

Thanks, it seems like Scott making it not evenly over full length but stripe by stripe and move file not an blade.

I tried and found that I don't have infinite patience needed to make a knife with just a file.

Vassili,

He starts going lengthwise when he uses the sand paper and sanding block (paint stir stick).

You could "draw" file just as well. Some draw filing info:

If you can get a copy of the book "How to Make Knives" by Loveless, Moran, and Barney, there is a great section in it about making a knife with hand tools by Richard Barney. He descrbes/illustrates the filing techniques very well.

Greg

Grind off teeth on both sides of your file. Also round off all four sides corners little bit.
This will prevent file from "biting in" into ricasso and file won't make scratches when you
occidentally try to draw it at some angle (not flat) to the blade.
Wear gloves. I got $20 gloves from HomeDepot and it made big difference.
