Hi all, I have learned quite a lot about knife making from these forums. I recently got a wild hare to make Damascus out of 52100 and 1080. I have been looking around on the forum and haven't seen anything about just 52100 and 1080. Just wondering if anybody has done it before and knows if the chromium in the 52100 is enough to get a good contrast.
Thanks, Oliver

You will get some contrast but not a lot.
You will be better off using 52100 and L6 tool steel. (not 15n20) The heat treat for 52100 and L6 are very similar, closer than 52100 and 1080. Get some L6 from Alpha knife supply.
