I know that O1 and L6 together make an amazing looking damascus but i don't have money. What metals do you suggest would make a good looking damascus but also a good usable blade? I'm not looking to make money i'm looking into it as a hobby. finding scrap metal and turning it into a beautiful work of art. If anyone on here knows anything about it that is. I might be on the wrong forum for this.

Nickle is used in alot of damascus for the silver shiny sections when etched.

If your looking for an easy steel to work with, 1080 and 15n20(nickle alloy) layered should give a nice finish. if your looking for more silver layers, use a little more 15n20, if you want more dark damascus use more 1080 than nickle, but use close to a 50/50 ratio. (if that makes sense)

if your looking for something else, 1095 and 15n20 is a vibrant damascus as well.

not too sure what your looking for but the knife makers discussion and or the shop talk might be a better place to ask.

it also depends on how you finish the steel before the etch and what acid your using.
