Making handle slabs....

I just got in a bunch of Kobuk Jade to make handle slabs out of, but I would like to know what sizes are prefered before I whack the stuff up. From what I see online, 5"x2"x1/4" seems most common, is that what you guys would prefer? I have enough Jade to make several different sized slabs, as thin as 1/8". I also just got in some Alaskan Black Jade from the Brooks range. Either type of jade would make excellent inlays or handle slabs. I would just like to know what sizes makers prefer to work with.

e-mail me if you are interested in a small sample of the black Jade.

All the slabs I have purchased are 5"x1.5" and come in different widths. 1/4" sounds good. Not many handles out there that are 2" wide. Save an extra 25% and go with 1.5"

Okay, I have one vote for 1.5" and one for 2"(via e-mail)...I guess I'll go with 1.75 then..

..any more input? Any suggestions for other materials? Come on guys, I need some info here...I know that there aren't too many people that are more talkative than knifemakers...

Right now, in stock, I have black jade, green jade, dalmation jasper, tons of other types of cool colored jasper, fossil wood, Various agate, and kovelite. If you guys are interested in a sample pack of these minerals get your addresses to me soon.

Also I can point you guys in the direction of some diamond Dremel bits for cheap (as low as 1.25 a pop), and other lapidary equipment so you can work this sort of stuff with out too big of an investment.

i'd have to go with 1.5" that's your best bet, i make large bowie knives and that's the biggest i've used. what tools do you need to work with and polish jade?

For those who asked for sample packs, I will have them ready and shipped out on Monday. I got some new materials in and decided to add them. Those interested in Diamond Dremel bits and other lapidary supplies, (at really low prices) should call David Lopacki Co. @ 1-888-593-9462.

For those who Mailed me for sample Packs, I should have them out soon. Due to some delays I have had trouble getting everything together (Strep throat, Printer on Fritz, School, Hunting season..

). I apologize for the delay, and should have the samples out by the end of this week.

Due to the expense incurred in this (One of the rocks I cut up for samples was over $40 by itself), I will have to ask that future requests for samples pay a small fee to help offset costs. E-mail me for details.

I would like to thank all those who have shown interest in my little endeavor, and I hope that my products and services will become a valuable addition to your art.

All those who requested sample packs before the 8th should be getting them sometime this week, I sent them out last Friday first class. The next wave of samples should be assembled by the end of the month, perhaps with a slightly different array of materials.

e-mail me for details on the sample packs. I now require a small deposit for them, refundable with your first order.
