The other day I hunted around 3 neighboring towns looking for a 25 count 12-gauge shotgun shell holding belt which all sporting stores and wal-marts decided to run out of at the sime time. I eventually found one, and instantly realized it did more than I wanted it to. I bought it to hold CO2 cartridges for my airguns, but after a minute I realized I wouldn't ever need to run around with 25 CO2 carts. I then modified the belt to accomidate holding various hunting pellets and clips for the airguns.
After that I used some nylon and cloth mossy oak camo material (about 15 bucks for a yard or two), to make a leg pouch which a tremendous amount of pockets and things... And before that I had put together a more simpler leg pouch... and a shoulder strap/hoster designed to hold a pocket mag on the shoulder so I could see in the dark and still have both hands free.

I just realized I'm constantly modding my gear and making my own when commercials don't accomidate. Is there anyone else that mods or designs their own gear?

I make simple mods to knife handles to build them up, or I'll add a pouch to a sheath or holster, but nothing too fancy.

Yep... one of my favorite things to do is fabricate / asssemble items for personal use;
Sheaths, leather or nylon as decided on the spur of the moment.
Rifle slings, as required.
pouches, need to fab a couple of bear spray pouches, one for the belt and two for the Jeep seats.
Jeep camping gear; currently working on a propane tent furnace (airconditioning next year), solar rechargeable electric tent light is done and field tested (works great).
The BOB is continually evolving (more of a creative packing exercise than actual fabrication)
The toy jeep is undergoing an axel change and custom suspension install.
The work jeep has a flatplate crossmember (got a chunk of 1/4 inch plate that ought ta work)and 35" tires (for better fuel mileage..uh..right.. :p )(requires customising the wheel wells (no lift)) in its near future.
Got the parts for a semi auto HK-91 to assemble for a winter project.
Enjoy!
