Making my first damascus fixed blade

That seller sources blades & steel from Pakistan. I'd test the billet to verify content & hardness.

I'll be giving it the spark test on the grinder.

I purchased a billet off ebay before and the steel was not 1080, it didn't even harden. Good luck.

I didn't see any negative feedback so I'm gonna keep ny fingers crossed.

good luck, unfortunately I didn't even think about testing a small piece of it for hardenability <-(if that's a word) before I put about 6 hours of work into making the complete blank.

good luck!

Just ordered this piece of 15n20/1095 from the bay. Beautiful ladder pattern. I think I'll make a Japanese style tanto.

Ah, price spotting. Not supposed to link to active ebay auctions.

As an aside, I believe the ladder pattern means it was made with Pakistani Aluminium ladders. Hope the piece arrives as advertised and it hardens up okay. IT would make a very beautiful looking knife.

I have only done a spark test and acid etch. So far, so good.

I'll send out for HT on this one to Jeff at TruGrit. He has much more expertise at HT than I do.
