Hello all.
I wrapped to be able to talk swords. I'm making my own sword since I can't buy one and I'm after some advice.
I got hold of a bandsaw blade from a sawmill. 8 foot long, 4 inches wide and about 1/4 inch thick. First I cut it in half and then cut all teeth off except 1 just above the handle. Now the blade is 2 1/2 inches wide and about 4 foot long. So far the blade is not tapered or edges ground yet. What to do next?

You may want to run this by the guys in "Shoptalk". I know a number of them amke swords regularly.

I bet there's a lot of milling to shape the blade involved. Then probably some sort of heat treatment to relieve the stresses in the steel that may be left from the bandsaw days. Also tempering after final shaping to makeit a sword. OPtherwise, you may jsut end up wit an SSO (sword-shaped-object)

Might consider doing a few knives or short swords outta the rest to see how you can perfect the technique. Seems like a big leap to go straight to swords...
