I have never ventured further than making fixed blade knives, and have never really had any desire to make multitool type knives.

However, from my pipsqueak days, I have always had a special soft spot for Victorinox swiss knives and the tradition that goes with it.

Even though I didnt know it when I got them, two of my SAK knives are official models issued to the Swiss army. That has kind of got me inkling to have an exact model of the ORIGINAL SAK. (Modell 1890)

Now I can spend a fortune on a replica pumped out from a modern production line, or I can make/ modify my own. I pretty much feel a handmade model would be more 'mcCoy'.

Has anyone attempted this? I have not been able to find any custom made replicas on the net.

Wow, using someone else's plans would take all the fun out of it. My understanding is that custom-made and replica are contradicting philosophies. Although, I believe that SAK inspired would be encouraged. However, if you are going to make a replica, you should probably, at the least, change the metal used for the blades. A nice S35vn, Stainless Damascus, etc. That way you would have a reason for making the knife and have something definitive that would separate it from the Victorinox made.

Well I want to make a replica that looks as close to the original as possible, ans essentially handmade for the most part. (Sorry I guess when I say custom made I actually mean hand-made) If I could do it from the same steel, all the better.

I would probably buy a cheap SAK and use the liners and blade and then find alternative ways to make the other 3 tools

You won't be making a replica, you will be modifying a factory knife. It certainly won't be handmade!

If he makes one from scratch,.............. it will be hand made knife.
If he takes a similar knife, disassembles it, modifies the blades, makes a new frame and scales....it will be a customized knife.
If he takes a cheaper copy and spiffs it up to look like what he wants...it will be custom modified knife.

Well with the drawings you have there, why not make it yourself?
Perhaps use some blackwood and stainless damascus?
That would be very cool!
