This is so cool to watch

Very cool. I remember getting all excited when there was an episode on SAKs on "How it's Made".

I attended manufacturing days weekend a year or so ago in Sevierville TN (knife store) and Vic was there. Victorinox had that knife making device there and were having you make a small sak for yourself (for free) if you purchased something. This weekend is usually scheduled in the fall and well attended by the manufacturers and is better than many knife shows for new stuff.

The neat thing that impresses me about Victorinox is when they faced a massive sales slump after 9/11. What did they do in the midst of such staggering drop in sales? They bought all new machinery, totally redid the factory and then diversified. After watching GM and Mopar asking for gov't handouts, its a neat story.

Now if they could put a few machines like that and people to use them in stores where you could custom order a knife with tools you want, that would be awesome.

There are such a diversity of Vic Sak models that I doubt many would choose to have a custom made especially if it cost more.

True, but I'd want a Spartan with a magnifying glass and pen. If Victorinox set things up I'd be willing to go 10-20 above for a knife that has only what I want.

Did anyone else watch the Amazing Race 3/04?
In Geneva Switzerland a task to complete was assembling a SAK at the store there. What was cool was the display board on the wall with all the models. A very cool challenge.

At the SAK store at the Mall of America they have a stand there and they assemble them right in store. I asked about getting one customized with tools I selected. I was told that they were not allowed to do that and it is not possible. I mentioned that I had seen customized SAKs before and I know it would work. No dice.
