Decided to blow a little cash tomorrow. I've narrowed it down to either a Spyderco Endura or a Griptillian. Anyone who has owned/used either or both gimme a clue. I shoud say that I'm planning on EDC and beating the hell out of whatever I decide on. Never owned a Spyderco OR a Benchmade.

Tough call. They are both great knives for the money. The endura now has VG-10, which is a great steel. The Endura is also thinner causing some to say that it carries better. The Griptilian uses 440C, a wider handle, and the axis lock. Personally I prefer the Griptilian, but wouldn't have a problem recommending either.

Here are a couple of threads that you may want to look at:

Griptilian vs. Endura

Griptilian versus Endura thread 2

I've got both but benchmade is my first choice. I think it's ugly but it's easy to use and fast also. It carries well also

If the Endura is VG10 that is the correct choice. If it is AUS8 or ATS55, pass and get the Griptilian. Vg10 is fantastic.

Griptilian!
I have a few Enduras which I like very much, but IMO the Griptilian is the best under-$100 knife out there. The 550's 440-C is excellent.

well i made that decision about 2 weeks ago i went to a shop and held both. i was tempted to get the vg 10 steel. but the griptialin fit great in my hand. also its fun to use if u depress the axis lock a little and flick your wrist it opens fast. i got the one with the open hole and i have no regrets. i found the endura a little to thin for my hands.

That is what I would use as the tie breaker. Otherwise they are very close, but it you can't hold it you can't use it.

A tough call, but if I had to make the choice, I'd go with the Griptilan. I own and like both, but the Grippy "fries my burger".:)

Have both, recommend the griptilian.

Love the Axis lock, a better feel in my largish hands, and 440C is rapidly becoming by favorite steel as a great all round steel in all regards. Yeah, it doesn't have the sex appeal of some of the newer ones, but is a wodnerful choice for most applications.

Unless of course you like holes and not thumb studs. Then the 550.
I have both and personally prefer the Griptillion it just "seems" tougher. Of course this is totally subjective on my part, but I like the feel of the extra heft in the Grip's scales, and the AXIS lock - oh yea.

Endura.

Truly reversible clip.

VG-10.

More Ergonomic Handle.

Slimmer, I have big hands, the the Griptilian is just clunky.

Thumb hole.

Endura.

But, try both, buy what you like.

Don't know much about the Endura except that I've heard a lot about it and never anything bad. The Mini Griptillian is my EDC when I'm on the road (having to go through airports). The Benchmade 705 seems to be the standard, but it seemed a little thick for me. The Mini Griptillian is a perfect thickness for my grip, ergonomic and slices with the best of them. The thumb-hole opener isn't perfect, but is perfect enough as it isn't my fighter (CRKT M16-03Z). It's the one that I ended up with after going through many, many production knives. Priced real well, too.

As an addition to my last post.

I was thinking hard about getting a mini-Griptilian.

And I realy like the Axis lock.

But in the end, the quality of experience that I have had with Spyderco won, and I will be buying another Delica.

So, for me, I choose Spyderco.

But, Benchmade may have the perfect offering for you.

Try 'em out. See what you like. Go with that.

Thanks for all the input. When I got to the shop, NO GRIPPY! Then I was stuck with the choice between Endura's, all stainless w/aus-8, or zytel and vg-10 guess what I did? Got both 'course. Took the vg-10 to work today and gave it a pounding that usually took the edge off my previous 'beater' now I know what all the fuss is about. Ive never seen anything that could hold an edge like that. Can anyone enlighten me about aus-8?

aus-8 is similar to 440-C and ats-34 in edge retention.Has more impact resistance than ats-34 and better corrosion resistance than ats-34. I find it easy to sharpen.

When this guy talks, I listen. My only experience was on an old endura, I liked it okay. VG10 is my very favorite though. (For right now, anyway. :p )

Get the Endura in VG-10. You won't be disappointed. I bought my Endura SE, in VG-10, this past weekend, and it is an AWESOME knife. Yesterday, I used it to cut a damaged safety flap from behind the wheels on my big rig. Now, these mudflaps vary in size, this one was about 3/4 of an inch thick hard rubber. That Spyderedge sliced through that sucker like a hot knife through butter. The edge didn't lose any sharpness after the cutting, either.

Grip? Perfect for my big hands. No slipping in the grip, at all. Steel? VG-10 is "the steel of the gods", as I've heard said before here in the forums.

You can't go wrong with a Spydie. :D :D :D
