Hey guys, I am in my second year of machining and I am done in 2 weeks, projects are almost done then I get to make some things for myself.:D
I have always wanted to make a tomahawk drift in case I ever get around to forging one, can anyone give me the specs on one they have made, or simply own? Length, diameters at either end, and material would probably be enough, it will most likely be made from a mild steel liker 1020, as that is what we have in the shop, and I doubt aluminum would be a good choice. :p
I could probably wing this but I don't want to risk it.

All the bought tomahawk drifts I have purchased over the years have all be cast ductile iron. If you were to make one out of solid steel it would not be worth the time you spent to make it. Now I have made several really simple drifts over the years but none are as involved as a tomahawk drift. Good luck!

The E-bay link show drifts from blacksmith's depot

they are teardrop shape and tapered

I'll measure mine for you if you make me one too :)

Ive seen videos on Youtube by Coal Creek Forge on how to make hawk drifts out of a pipe wrench handle...I think it was under "forging a tomahawk". Hope this helps.
Chris
