Anyone try making their own pack. I got this idea from the lightweight backpacking site (www.backpacking.net/contents.html#top) and wanted to see if anyone tried it and how it came out. Anything to watch out for or any tips? Thanks for any info you have.
I want to make my own pack so I can travel very light when I go backpacking.

Unless you're pretty good with a sewing machine, you'll be better of buying a pack. There are several lightweight packs on the market these days, most of them are intended for high-altitude mountaineering and won't have well padded shoulder straps because your thick layers of warm clothes are supposed to serve as the padding. What you might try to do is buy an ultra light pack (Lowe Alpine and The North Face make some good ones) and stitch on better straps and belt. But if you do decide to make a pack you should check out this link: www.geocities.com/Yosemite/Rapids/8812

Let us know how it turns out

Granite,
Thanks for the link. The overnight conversion idea is great.

CAman.
