Hello everyone!
I am starting out knife and sheath making one step at a time to make puukkos and would like to ask a few questions about making sheaths. I have seen good tutorials on how to make he sheaths that the reindeer/cow leather is wrapped around the plastic or wooden blade cover all the way, but I would like to ask how the "fancier looking" sheaths with exposed antler or wood are assembled.
Example: https://imgur.com/a/DCnOAEW
-How is the leather attached to the rest of the sheath? How secure is that connection?
-Is the bottom wood/antler piece two pieces glued together? Or is it one piece hollowed out for the blade?
-I haven't found any good tutorials, or at least anything other than photos of these. Is there a good resource for learning to make these?
-Are these in any way flimsy without the knife inserted into the sheath compared to the regular/more common puukko leather sheaths?
