I just got my Malkoff M60LL in the mail and dropped it into my G2 ... wheeeee!
Initial observations: the M60LL is slightly brighter and cooler than the stock incandescent bulb. It's supposed to give 8 hours life over 2 hours for stock.
I'm happy.

Is the beam about the same as to size or narrower/wider?

The LL model is the 80 lumen model right? I got one of those in my 6PL Defender. Great assembly. Has the same output as the surefire but is more efficient and I think the quality of light output is better as well. Which was amazing to me. Surefire is one of the best.

Same set-up I've been running for the past 2 years, its perfect for thse times when runtime is needed over output.

For sure, I bought it with the idea that the light would get me through one really bad night. That's why I chose it for my EDC setup. I'd love to have 200+lumens, and do in other lights, but I wanted something that could last an entire night. And the LL model will put out useful light for around 15 hours I think. At least those were the figures suggested on CPF when I researched it.

The beam is about the same width, but softer edges and the spill seems to be a bit brighter too. 80 lum is plenty for a survival light or most situations and I think even a tactical light.
If you have a standard Surefire G2 and are considering an LED the Malkoff M60LL is the way to go.

The beam pattern of a malkoff is like no other light, it combines flood and throw in a way that you could only hope to get from other lights. The optic also produces more out the front light than a reflector so your getting the most lumens possible. Runtime? I'm not sure how long it will run until it no longer produces light but I do know when it drops out of regulation it does not loose much output unlike the surefire P60L that drops suddenly to a moonlight mode and is almost useless. Can't go wrong with a malkoff, they are the best.

I've got a Malkoff MD2 with an M60 and a hi/low switch. It's really bright with 123 primaries - around 230 lumens I think. Have a couple of AW 18650 rechargeables on order and I'm looking forward to running it on them. Gene and Cathy (owners) are the best!
