I have to admit it, I like an uber-tactical-ish type knife. The BM 14250. I'm not sure what the hell I'm supposed to do with the tanto point/recurve blade, but I think it looks great. The look along with BM's quality makes this model one of the few tactical type knives that actually appeals to me. The 14200/205/210 are definitely more practical for EDC, but what about the times when I absolutely have to stab through that car door? CS? Nah, I'd rather reach for this tacool blade...

What mall ninja type knives appeal to you? It's okay, we're all in this together...

I have a couple guilty desires. The titanium(the ultimate in mall ninja blade material choice's) Besh dagger from Dark Op's is one of those knives I really want but am to embarrassed to buy. The Maker is a canadian forces soldier and it is very much like the FS Dagger you would expect to see on a space ship and I love the FS Dagger. It has that crazy point that you can't even comprehend on a 2 D pic. It is useless for anything but covert deanimation( an actual Dark Op's term) or martial arts practice but it's main use is to play with it while watching 24.

Take a deep breath a mora and call me in the morning.

Hi ignoramus, I would like to try and break you of your mall ninja affliction and at the same time open a new world for you. The mall ninja type stuff, with the recurved tanto serated blade and the skull shaped skull crushing pommells, I think are interesting at this point, because you there is nothing better for you. What I mean is, if you got into wilderness survival/bushcraft, for example, really using your knife for real life adventures, or hunting or fishing, you would become more fascinated with beautiful but practical knives. Another thing is, try and take a look at the Busse knives for example. They have a much deeper level of beauty and coolness, that comes not only from extreme quality but also being very practical. You can learn to appreciate blades and grinds that are practical and usefull. That BM 14250, what is it really, a talisman for a fantasy? But its a shallow dream. Let your knive interest be a doorway to real adventure and fun. You know how much fun would it be to be a ninja assasin anyway?

Nothing wrong with buying a knife for the looks, just look at every collector of custom knives, do you think they will ever use that high priced blade? Damn near works of art! Sometimes you gotta buy stuff with no practical purpose other that eye appeal, it's your money do what you want with it.

I am a big fan of Busse and particularly Scrapyard and Swamprat knives but some of their knives are just as impractical as anything from Dark Op's although it is much better made.

My Scrapyard SS4 is one of the best bush blades ever once it had a bit of a reprofile.
I would recommend the Swamprat Ratmandu as a knife that can be both mall ninja cool but also a very well made and practical blade with great geometry.
It is the top one

well...
would you consider the
CRKT Desert Cruiser Special Forces a mall ninja knife?
How about the Boker Plus Armed Forces Tanto Folder I?
If those are mall ninja knives, then I guess I have at least two :o

The Besh XSF-1 is made by MOD (Masters of Defense), not by Dark Ops.

My mall ninja knife: Cold Steel Triple Action folder.

The proof as to how well made D.O.'s are will come later in this month. Noss is ordering and testing a Raven to destruction. I've heard an awful lot about what junk they are on this forum with no proof so I'm glad he's gonna put it to the test.
I've never seen a D.O. fixed blade in person but they certainly claim they are made for extra hard use by the military and law enforcement. We have a full sized D.O. folder and it's made heavy enough, I'm not going to try to destroy it so whether it's all so tough or not I probably won't ever find out.
I've read posters here that think from reading this forum Dark Ops are made in China. One saw a picture of a Dark Ops knock off from China and exclaimed how they no doubt are made side by side in the same factory.
I doubt they are nearly as poorly made as most people think. (It doesn't really matter to me how well the Raven does when Noss puts it to the test.) We have many brands of knives and just one D.O. it locks up very well and is a very heavy folder. I know for fact you can't close it by spine whacking. That's about the most testing I've tried with it. Sure they are advertised way over the top. I guess we will see how rugged that Raven really is toward the end of this month, the test results will be posted on his site alongside the other brands he's tested.

Not sure exactly what a "mall ninja" is, but after a lifetime of carrying every different kind of knife there is, I have in middle age finally settled on the Emerson Combat Karambit. This is one devastating, simple to use weapon folks!

If I ever have to face one, I hope I have a firearm in my hand and my oponent is at least 21 feet away....

I've read that D.O. knives actually seemed pretty tough. The issue that I've read about them is their marketing and impractical designs.

I think we need to define "mall ninja" first.

and I think any knife ridiculous for normal edc.

if your a librarian in a safe neighborhood it would be idiotic to carry let's say an Emerson Combat Karambit.

If your an officer working in section 8 then it maybe more reasonable.

Carry the nastiest thing that is legal in your area! For me, that's any folder up to 4", which is the largest thing I ever care to carry....

I agree with Busse also:thumbup:. The AK47, the one with the knuckles. Moreso because of INFI, but those just look really fun to play with.

Maybe its just me, but I don't consider quality tactical knives for mall ninjas, but rather the cheaper copys of them...lol...Mall Ninjas can't afford a MOD blade or a Swamp Rat...Am I right...their knife budget usually consist of about $8.75 and they need to save some money for gum...lol...

BUT..................I totaly agree, sometimes you just gotta buy a knife cause it looks cool, lol...We are all just big kids, you gotta let it out every now and then...

I'm definitely not calling all tactical knives or even most of the Busse line are Mall Ninja-types. I'm mainly referring to tactical-types that are irrelevent for the ELU's daily cutting uses. So even the designs practical for tactical uses and deanimation, but the ELU simply wouldn't do anything like that, I'd consider it Mall Ninja criteria. This is how I view mall ninja stuff that I might buy at least.

The evening hung dark and bone-chilling, like so many in the Minnesota northland, and an unusually biting wind had driven countless thousands into the Mall of America. Officially, the terror threat level was at orange, but there was a pervasive sense among mall security staff that something grave, something hideous and utterly evil, would soon manifest, and lives could very well be changed forever.

Supervisor Iggy felt an especially deep trepidation tonight, and had volunteered to work an extended shift, not only so that one of his officers could score with the little blond girl who'd just started work at the Orange Julius, but because the need for action ran deep through his veins. He could feel the adrenaline quickening his pulse, heightening every sense, and felt much like the same, fine-tuned fighting machine he had been only a few months earlier while on duty in Baghdad.

Overcome by the familiar urge to eviscerate terrorists, Iggy pulled the freshly-sharpened Benchmade Heckler & Koch 14250 axis lock folder from his Maxpedition pack, flicking open the blade more quickly than a single stoke of fly's wing. A smooth, effortless pass down his left forearm sent hairs flying and, wiping the blade clean on his neatly pressed pants, he clipped it to his right front pocket where he felt -- no, where he knew it would most certainly be needed this night.

To be continued ... (uh, maybe :) )

Being a true mall ninja is about a state of mind....not a piece of equipment.

ohhhhmmmmmm......

I understand...I guess your just talkign about certain designs that just look cool, but may serve very little purpose besides that?

Or in other works, just some "scary" lookin blades? If so...Im guilty of it, for sure! lol, but Im not as bad as I get older, these days I go for simple, practical, and high quality...I find my tastes are changing quite a bit as I get older...Which can be a good thing...:)

I'm the same way. For the most part, gimme practical over aesthetics any day. That's one of the reasons I like Spyderco so much.
