It's been really nice during the day here lately. I wanted to take the kids on a hike with the fall colors. So, we went to Mammoth Cave NP yesterday afternoon.

I tried showing them the different shaped leaves for different kinds of trees, but they weren't really interested. My son did pack an acorn for most all of the hike.

We saw some wildlife too

I'm just outside of Bowling Green. A little over 30 minutes from the NP, not too far.

Nice pics. I was there when I was around 10, need to go back someday. Thanks for sharing. (you could of left the snake photo out!)

Hey Derek, you know you just made me real home sick! I have never been in one of the caves there! I stopped there a few years back when I was in that area hunting old L&N Cabooses! When I realized that I didn't really have the right kind of shoes on to be caving, I decided better of that idea but, that sure is pretty country down in there, and I had to stop and take photos of the old steam engine and the passenger car they have there on display out in the park! It was a nice trip! Now, I really wonder if I will ever really be able to go in any of the caves there for fear of maybe slipping or falling and maybe hurting my back again! One of the problems with getting old!

Really, thanks for the photos even though it does make me homesick! I have the same problem every time we head down to Teddy's, and when we start getting into southern Indiana, and close enough to start seeing the mountain tops off in the distance, I start feeling like I am back home!

You guys take care, and I'm really sorry I didn't get to see you this last "Gathering" trip but, I will be looking forward to it next year!

Later,
ft

One day I'll have to stop by and say hello. I go through there a lot. In fact I'll be going through tomorrow on my way to Cleveland but I have no time to stop.

Looks like all had a good time. Thanks for sharing, love seeing other parts of the country.
