i am thinking about getting a new crk as an edc and am wondering how well the mammoth inlays stand up. better or worse than wood?

anyone have any personal experience?

Yes, I use these on a daily basis. I rotate them with a few others as well. I keep all my Sebbies or Mnandis in a slip pouch or sheath. Always works great for me!

Good Luck,

Westlan... I'm new here, but I just wanted to let you know those pictures just about made me get a second mortgage on the house... Very nice collection.

are they still on the website even... i may have not looked where i should have

The ivory inlays on my large Classic (the two on the front scale) have hairline cracks in them. I carry it in my pant pocket, and assume that the cracks were caused by perspiration / humidity.

I would suggest that you think about waxing the inlays with renaissance wax, or something similar, from time to time. I`m doing just that, but of course it is a bit late for that now in my case............ . ;)

Mammoth Ivory should be stabilized to resist cracking, imo.
Heck, most all inlayed materials should be stabilized ! ;)

Yes, they are like stone.

Based on my experience, mammoth ivory has about the same physical propertis as elephant ivory. It's ancient, not fossilized. After all, it's been in the ground for a few towsend years only (usually 10.000-40.000)

You and me and everyone on this forum will be long gone before mammoth ivory bark or ivory scales will deteriorate. Enjoy.
