Greetings All,

I finally got around to making a sheath and sharpening this one. Photographed with my fifth light box setup - it seems each light box gets a little bit better. I'm pretty happy with the results. 10" OAL, 5" BL. All comments welcome.

I saw this on your Instagram feed and thought it was stunning. Like it even more so on the big screen of my computer! :D

WOW! That Hamon is gorgeous. Mammoth scales are just perfect. I know how hard it is to get them to match like that.

Ron,

Thanks for the feedback. Funny you should say the scales are perfect. I made this knife for a client - I sent him photos of the mammoth ivory before starting work, which he approved. After sending him a photo of the finished knife he insinuated that I switched the ivory and that he was disappointed but would pay the balance because he didn't want to lose his deposit. I wonder if he was fishing for a reduction in the agreed to price?!!

I refunded the deposit and kept the knife - didn't want him owning one of my knives after his insinuation. Every once in awhile us knifemakers do run into a stinker, but 99% of my dealings with the public have been rewarding. :)

I think I'll name this knife the Stinker Hunter. :D

couple of comments....

I'm not a knifemaker...but I've been collecting about 30 years. I know mammoth is very hard to work with because it can often be fragile and I've seen the best knfemakers frustrated when working on a mammoth handle. The scales on your knife are just outstanding. And I'm guessing that little flare at the end of the handle was no small feat. Most makers would just finish it out straight.

I learned a long time ago to NEVER haggle a price with a custom maker. Chances are, the asking price often undervalues the effort that went into making that piece. With very few exceptions knifemakers are not opportunists and are not looking to get rich making knives. Honest pay for honest work.

It is criminal that you feel even the smallest amount of disappointment in this knife because you shouldn't. It's fantastic.

Heck, I’m not disappointed in the knife at all. It’s my best work. It’s a killer knife.
