hey folks.. here's some pics from our trip to Mammoth Lakes/eastern sierra's.. it was an awesome time as usual.. this was our 4th summer going and hanging out there.. we got in last night and after dealing with photobucket for quite sometime, i finally got some pics uploaded..

going through the central valley, we were stuck behind this truck for a good portion of the begining of our journey.. i thought this was a cool pic..

to get to Mammoth from where we live, we have to cross over the sierra's, on Tioga pass.. it is absolutely gorgeous.. there is still snow on all over the place..

IMG_0331-1.jpg

we also go through Tuolumne Meadows, whch is one of our favorite places.. the place is amazing..

we always do a ton of fishing while in Mammoth.. this year the trout were biting like crazy.. with the exception of the misses, who always catches fish, we all pulled some nice rainbows out..

the beautiful Lake George, with Crystal Crag looming above it..

i love this shot..

more to come..

we had one fun day cruising around the high desert dirt roads, in and around the Antelope Valley.. we shot some .22's at one of the local shooting spots..

the beautiful Antelope Valley..

we also went hunting for obsidian, which is all over the place.. we all found some nice pieces..

IMG_0431.jpg

there are a bunch of natural hot springs tucked away in these area's.. this is one that is a little less populated, that we frequent.. it has also been lined with cement..

IMG_0437.jpg

this year we decided to hike up the Duck Pass trail and spend the day/night at the beautiful Skelton lake, which sits at 9,800 ft. in elevation.. this is one of the coolest places we have been to for a long time.. the lake is huge and is loaded with wild brown trout.. the hike wasn't so bad, it is only a few miles.. all up hill on the way there though.. the dude's didn't like that too much..

my knives for the trip.. my Laconico/Wohlwend un-scandi bushcrafter and SAK camper.. i also took my Helle viking and BHK long trail, but they stayed with the rest of our gear, back at our friend Greg's place..

IMG_0529-1.jpg

yet more to come.. be patient..

some pics of our camp.. we could'nt have had a cooler spot.. the scenery was breathtaking..
the misses, the little dude and I slept in our friend Gregs Golite Hex 3 tent.. the thing kicks a$$.. i want one now.. our older son got to use Greg's Henessey Hammock.. he liked it, though it was a little different for him, he had some difficulties..

some hungry boys waiting for their yummy freeze dried, backpacking diner..they actually loved them all..

some coffee in the early a.m...

IMG_0520.jpg

we left Mammoth early yesterday a.m. and went and spent the morning/afternoon in Yosemite Valley.. our boys have been all over, but had never been into the valley.. it is truly one of the most amazing places in the world, with the exception of all of the multi-cultural tourists of course..

passing through Tuolumne Meadows again, early in the a.m..

IMG_0550.jpg

we hiked to the base of Yosemite falls and had lunch.. and then cruised around and checked out the sights..

Amazing shots Mike. That is beautiful country for sure and it makes me really miss the western landscape. Almost didn't recongize you with half the beard. That's okay - you just figured out what looks cool in todays world :D Jealous of those fish!

Great stuff Mike.

Yosemite, Tuolumne, the hot tubs in the middle of the dessert out past Mammoth. I'd love to get out there again some day.

Looks like your crew had a great time.

thanks for posting- looks like a great trip and a good time had by all! :)

the Sierra's are definitely on my "to do list", I'd like to do the JMT w/ my wife and would like to the SHT as well (sans wife as this one is a little on the rough side :D)

btw that un-scandi looks like a dandy
