So, I found This Thread, which I really wanted to contribute to, except that it's four years old.

Everybody likes pictures, right? Here are some, with ugly glare included!

Rothco small tool bag. Seemed small, until I started using it. Needs some creative organization, sometimes. I'm not sure why the tire pressure gauge is in there, it's kinda handy for size comparison.

Lunch kettle. Generic Molle soft-side insulated. Nothing much to say here, coffee cup for scale.

Leather and canvas laptop bag from another vendor on the river site. I use it as a day-trip bag. Bonus pic showing the stuff that lives in there permanently.

Lastly, Rothco Weekender bag. I like Rothco stuff because it's well made for the price, and easy to care for.

The general idea was to have a series of satchels that can scale up, depending on what I think I'm going to need. I've finally got that sorted to my satisfaction, and I wanted to share.

Nice bags! I'm also a member of the bag of the month club. I have so many bags - each for a purpose - then when I use them, I realize it is not the perfect bag, and so go looking for another one. I have purposed and re-purposed so many bags my wife just gives me the wife's "stare" now when another one arrives at the front door. Good luck with your idea of "scaling up" - never thought of that.

Preach it. I waffle between wanting to have a flexible response capability, and wanting to offload all the stuff I've accumulated. I find myself looking at replacements for the lunch bag, and then closing all the tabs that I have open with "alternatives". I know it's a matter of "when", not "if", I'm just trying to push it back.

Seems I have the same affliction. Don’t use my bags much but seems like I need more (I do not need more but still have the impulse). Can’t explain

My EDC bag was in the other thread, but I also love my Rothco tool bag.

I manage to run only two. Don’t think I’ll ever need more. Hiking/beach/camp/theme park is a Mystery Ranch 2 day. EDC/car is a NutSac sling 😂. It fits more than I ever thought it would.

It may be another side of the same motivation that makes us "need" the bag in the first place. We have all these things with us to deal with the randomness of the world, and to give us the confidence that we can deal with the randomness of the world. Pockets run out of space quick, so you need to put the same thought into "how to carry" as you do in "what to carry".

I believe you are on to something, definitely something psychological. Never thought about it but perhaps it does give me a sense of order/control. Paging Carl

Makes me miss my edc 9mm in my work bag. Old Boss carried. New lady that bought the place freaked out when she found out he had a gun in his desk (among a couple in his bag). after he had left but before he fully packed his belongings. She asked me that she wondered if it is loaded? I told her of course it is loaded (I stopped short of my usual next statement which is “it doesn’t work that great as a door stop”). She posted the property shortly there after.

We are going remote soon anyway if I decide to stay here. If I go elsewhere and larger I am sure will be a no no as well. I could keep in truck but don’t want o risk theft

The way my 19 sits you can’t really see it at all Usually I just pull the sling around and open a side to dig out anything else. It worked better than I thought it would really.

I moved my edc bag from my 5:11 Moab 6 to my Moab 8 sling bag . Because I am looking at a couple of days in the hospital and needed more room. I will probably move it back later the Moab 8 was bought for an outdoor bag . I have a travel/go bag set up in a 5:11 Moab 10 with a serious first aid kit and more comfort stuff

Knock knock! With the holiday weekend, I've had a chance to try out some of my Man Bags.

The messenger bag has a ton of space. It's actually a little big for just a couple hours at picnics where I may have to entertain myself.

Considering this is most of what I have in there.

And no, I'm not very good. Best I can manage is three. Boots make it harder, okay?

Let's try something

1000002674.jpg

Yep. It all fits.

1000002675.jpg

Well then. What if I want something more nerdy to read?

1000002676.jpg

It's not exactly easy, but it fits

1000002677.jpg

I wonder....

1000002678.jpg

Seems like it.

1000002679.jpg

All right. I have a larger organizer that usually lives in the messenger bag.

1000002681.jpg

In it goes!

1000002682.jpg

Neat. I mean, I would need to remove all of it to get to anything, but this was about maximum volume, not practical carry.

So what's the point, other than to post pictures and find out how silly I can be (there's still a little space left before the zipper won't close)?

I've been thinking that there is a mid-point between the tool bag and the messenger that I could fill with another carefully chosen purchase, after many contented hours of searching the internet. Somewhere between entering my card information and realizing how dull my life may seem, I decided to do something sensible, and see how much of that mid-point the little canvas tool bag will fill. Quite a lot, it seems.

Will that stop me from buying something else? Well, I've got three links saved, and I found a rucksack I like along the way....

I had to carry a shoulder sling man bag for a year, as I had a heart pump and needed to carry 14lb of battery for the pump.
I believe its a camera bag, the walls are padded, so its not flimsy, but sturdy. Came with velcro walls you can adjust to many configurations.
Very comfy strap, and adjustable for belt carry or shoulder carry. Has some hidden pockets too.

A friend of ours had the same for a while until a transplant came up. I made jokes about cybernetics, because I can't resist whistling in the dark.

His wife and his two sons, both early teens at the time, learned how to change the batteries and do basic maintenance on the pump. He said it was quite a thing to feel your heart stop, and then restart.

Dude ended up with a total of two heart transplants, plus the pump, which meant he had his chest cut open three times. I used to say he was one of maybe three people I've ever met who was legitimately more hard core than I am. When you add in that this was genetic and he had lived with heart failure for almost thirty years, got married, had two kids...

Yeah, most transplants will require additional transplants.
I've had 2 open heart, 1 lvad and 1 heart transplant. My team says, eventually I'll need another, possible a double next time, heart and liver. As the meds are killing my liver.
Im 44, so its possible I'll get 2 more transplants, if im lucky. For about a year, when I had the lvad, my wife would put her head on my chest and said I sounded like a vacuum haha!

One cool part about having the lvad, NO ONE was allowed to go into my bag, not even police or airline. Once I tell them its medical equipment, they said 'ok, you can pass through here'. I kept my knives in my bag.

My wife (surgeon) says its common for people to have medical bags attached to their body and it would be colostomy bags, and cops do not want to mess with them, as they smell really really bad.
I remember going to court and I asked them, want me to open my bag and they all jumped back in fright and said 'no, you can pass through here' and pointed me away from the metal detectors (which can turn off heart pumps).
