Ever since last year I wanted to go to Blade. I promised myself that I would.

I had plans to room with a fellow HOG, but they fell through, so I waited.

Then I applied for a new job in March. Unfortunately for me, the proposed start date wasn't until the end of May. I didn't find this out until like a week before, so I had to put off making plans in the interim.

Don't get me wrong, the new job is fantastic, but I couldn't take the time off needed to get to Blade on time and didn't make any plans before then.

This week I planned on taking Friday as a sick day and take the earliest possible flight. Unfortunately, I had an important meeting on friday so that didn't work. My next plan was to take a red eye so that I could at least make Sat & Sun, but for one, the cost was astronomical and I also had to be here.

Forgive my drunken rant. I am just so mad that I couldn't make it even though I tried so hard.

I guess there is always next yearN

Have fun you lucky HOGs!!

Finances and health have kicked not only my plans to the curb, but many of the blades I'd like as well. I try to keep the faith though. You keep your chin up Bro! It will happen when it's supposed to. Hopefully I'll meet you and many others there.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm in almost the same situation. Not much to do about it, remember to enjoy what you do have, and then we'll be there next year :)

I planned on going too. Sometimes life just gets in the way.

You said it, and I'll say it (just like every other year). There's always next year!

Just remember, there are others that couldn't go because health issues, We have to be happy and thank to the lord because we are not ill, just my 2 cents

Oh how I feel your pain bro! Hang in there, life will definitely smooth itself out in due time...

at least that's what I'm telling myself ;)

Let's not allow this mistake to happen again though, eh?!

Go chop some things today...it's a great stress reliever :)

All this shows is that you are responsible and put the needs of your family above a social gathering (no matter how attractive it may be.) I have a father in law that chose not to take off work for a funeral because there was a strict policy in place for the first 60 days of a new job; no sick days allowed for any reason. The kids had to eat. That demonstrated a lot of character.

I just read a study that found the anticipation of a vacation is as, or sometimes more important as a stress reliever than the actual vacation. So as soon as 2013 Blade is scheduled, schedule vacation time and ENJOY for the whole year. And dude YOU HAVE A JOB (congrats), way too many people still don't. And +1 on what Climbingrocks said.

I wanted to go too but it's not just the cost to get there, stay there and party there, I'd have to have the budget to buy some blades while I'm there too. Someday we'll be there and get to shake Jerry's hand. :)

Right there with ya. Promised myself I would go but I bought a new house in a much better area away from Philadelphia proper instead. It will just be that much better when I finally make it to Blade....... and hey we have a NMFSH a LBNMSHBM to look fotrward to! I'll buy you a beer there next year

I wanted to go and wanted to go and wanted to go! Then my original plans changed also. Then I decided a week ago to just cruise out Friday afternoon. Then my wifes Expedition lost oil pressure on the interstate Friday a week ago on her and my daughter and her so she drove it to the next exit and called me. Now the engine no worky. Apparently it does not run well without oil pressure ,but my wife did not know that. So instead of Blade we have a new Toyota Venza and an Expedition that no worky. So don't feel so bad. Do what I did. Cheer up and score a Pork Shank on the exchange!

Well, if you had to miss one - this one would not be the end of the world.

Europe is falling into a black hole, and that will affect us here - to what degree remains to be seen

The US economy is wobbly - not a great time to be drinking at blade with a nice credit card available... :)

Jerry and Amy0 will not be there - nothing against the rest of the Team who still make this an amazing event - but if and when I go I really want to Shake the Mans Hand.

And finally - I have one going to college and one going to grad school. I have some weird dreams of retiring someday and a wife with health problems.....So I have hunkered down a bit and am hoping that things start moving upward - but don't see much improving for a bit...

However Knob Creek in the fall...or spring... himmmmmm :):D:D:thumbup:;)

I couldnt make it last year mainly due to financial reasons.I thought about going this year as my fiances were a little better but in the end I didnt feel physically capable as I have some minor health issues I am dealing with, but I tell you looking at the offerings is kinda making me regret my decision.

Look at it this way, you now have a entire year to plan and save for it. Book a room at the Waverly in January, or whenever they will take a reservation at the Blade rate. Then, a few weeks before the show, post that you are looking for a roomate to split the cost. You save money, and meet a fellow Kool-Aid drinker. Worked for me in 2009.

This was my first one, but I have to say it is nothing to beat yourself up over. Like I said in my last thread, anything that I was really looking forward to, outside of the surprises during the show, was gobbled up during the first few minutes of the opening. If you didn't have an exhibitor pass, which many non-exhibitors had or were first in line Friday morning, you had little or no chance of getting anything popular. Outside of a few limited offerings and show discounts, everything is going to be available via the website later on. Remember, we all had to pay sales tax at the show, so the price offered later on will not be too much higher from what I could tell. If you add in the price of the travel and hotel, we all paid a nice premium on these knives.

Don't get me wrong, I would do it all again in a heartbeat and I plan on coming next year for sure. The whole social experience is well worth it, however, for the goal of obtaining knives alone, I wouldn't beat myself up over missing it. See you all there next year!! :)

I couldn't have said it better myself Havoc550. I was like the 12th person in line. Waited 4 1/2 hours, ran to the booth and it was already two deep all the way across. I paced back and forth like a poor little piglet and watched the knives get gobbled up. But I still scored some nice ones in the offerings and met some great people.

Yep yep, start planning early! As soon as I can ( they start taking reservations) I will be booking my hotel, and today I scored a free round trip airline ticket, sooo plans are already in motion for next year!

Thanks all for the words of inspiration. I kind of want to delete my whole post because it is entirely over-dramatic. I guess a lot of whiskey can have that effect.

Missing Blade was a bummer, but in the grand scheme of things it's really nothing to whine about. Sorry to the rest of you that couldn't make it for health or other reasons.

I'll see you all at Blade '13!!
