Ever since I got my Atlantic Salt its been my constant companion on the water. Prior to finding H1 I took other cheaper "throw away" knives in the water because I didnt want to screw up my nice knives.

Being a Florida native I'm out on the water every chance I get.

I already know how great H1 is but let me tell yall about my Tuesday this week...

I woke up at 4 a.m. to go meet my friends and load up the boat. As soon as sunrise hit we had the boat in the water and headed out to the flats to fish for some Trout in the Gulf. After it got really hot we headed back up the river to go jump in the springs and cool off and eat some lunch. Then for the afternoon we went back out to the Gulf and fished the mangroves for Redfish.

After a great day of catching Reds, Trout, and Spanish Mackerel I went over to my GF's place and we jumped in the pool and then got in the hot tub.

HERE'S THE IMPORTANT PART TO THIS WHOLE STORY!!!!

In one day my Atlantic Salt was in Gulf of Mexico, Crystal River, Three Sisters Springs, back in the Gulf, in the pool, AND in the hot tub. If thats not a good test of H1 then I dont know what is...

I'm starting to think every Floridian so be required to own some H1!

How's the edge hold up in use?

That's some nice real-world testing that you put yours through. Wouldn't mind if it were required for every Ohioan.

I have used my Krein'd Salt 1 quite a bit. It takes a hair-whittling edge rather easily and maintains a working edge for quite some time. It also doesn't chip.

After cutting up a whole roomful of old carpet with my Salt 1 (it went through it like no one's business), it was still ready to cut more. The edge was dull but after going through all the phases on the Sharpmaker, and ending with the UF stones, I managed to whittle hair with it. If you curious about H1 and want to use it hard, feel free.

If you ever want to hang out with another cracker (family been in Florida 140 years this year) I do pretty much the same thing a little north at Steinhatchee. It is pretty amazing. Let me know if you ever want to talk fishing or knives. I'm at the river house right now.

I have a pe Salt 1 and a se Pacific Salt I haven't used yet and they never get rinsed. I will have the S1 clipped tomorrow as I'm scalloping.

I have around five H1 knives and I love them. I've got a yellow SE Atlantic on the way and am looking forward to it. My most-used Salts right now are PE and SE Pacific Salts (both yellow) and a black-handled SE Tasman. I'm looking to put the Atlantic in place of the Tasman for a while in the rotation when I get it.

The H1 PE knives hold an edge pretty well, and resharpen easily. So far, I haven't had to resharpen any of the SE ones yet. It's my experience up to now that the SE H1 has extremely good edge-holding, even for serrated blades.

And I really love not having to worry about maintenance!

I totally agree, H1 Rules.
I have a aqua salt and Salt 1, love both knives.

The Aqua salt is a great all around knife to have on fishing trips on the boat. food prep, bait prep all with out worrying. i convexed mine. hold a very decent edge.

Hey you florida bums, i live in orlando and have a boat. My problem is finding fishing partners willing to go early in the morning to fish.... if you guys need a fishing buddy with a boat let me know.

H1 is great! Edge retention is not as good as with some other steels, but not bad either. I use my Salt I all the time. It’s a real pleasure not to have to worry about corrosion.

Dangit.. I might have to put a Pac salt back on my list. I was going to get one after a ton of praise came out for them, then I bailed when there were a few back to back threads about how the edge holding ability was terrible.. yall got me on a merry go round.

i just got my first h1 knife in yesterday, PE black salt 1 and im very excited to see how the steel performs... i like not having to worry about corrosion though:thumbup:

I totally agree about the SALT'S.... they can't be beat in salt water: they are "bullet proof".

I'm starting to gain a new appreciation for the highly-alloyed steels, but H1 is a lot of fun. Love how the serrated Tasman cuts the wire ties on holiday presents that chip out or roll the edges on my other knives. Love how plain-edged H1 Spyderhawk takes a such a sharp, polished edge with 'just' a Spyderco Doublestuff. Love how the serrated Atlantic Salt works for cutting everything above and below ground.

The price worries me, but an FRN-handled H1 French chef knife in a 9 or 10 inch blade would be the ultimate knife for someone who wants sharp, but shares cutlery with folks who put everything in the dishwasher.

I used to carry a Delica 4 as EDC until I got a Salt 1. Very much lighter.

I recently disovered that you can strop the H1 blade on the corners of cardboard boxes to get it somewhat sharp. But I wasn't able to do it with VG-10.

I'd say the edge holds up pretty well. I pretty much use it for cutting up bait, line, and other random boat tasks.

The thing thats nice is when I'm done cutting up bait I can just dunk it in the water and get the fish guts off without worry of rust.
