Man, I'm a little disappointed with my Blur

I had to use it for emergency door opening service this weekend. You know, you shut the door to room and "oops, where are the keys again?" Simple enough with no dead bolt and a simple doorknob-latch mechanism. I just placed the blade inside the jamb and used it to scoot the latch out of it's hole in the jamb. And all of a sudden I've got several chips in my blade! It's nothing I haven't done before with other knives, and my Blur has held its edge very well. I just thought it would have faired better with such a small task. I'll get some pictures up later this week.

Man, why aren't they better pry bars? You'd think a thin bladed, super-sharp knife would be better at prying open doors.

i used mine twice today to get into the seal on a car door to get a wedge in it so i could get it unlocked, thats the closest ill come to prying with my blur.

We realize that our tools are not always used just to "cut" with. We hear many success stories of how a Kershaw or ZT did this or that (unrelated to actual cutting). Sometimes this is not always the case and there can be issues. Sorry it didn't work out this time for you Capt.

I am curious to know what blade steel your Blur is.

Just know we have your back should you need us.

Talk about being disappointed, I used mine to pick my nose and the darn thing cut me !!! :D:D:D

I didn't really pry anything. Do you guys seriously not know how to open a door with a knife? I'm not about to believe that a fine Kershaw blade can be bested at an alleged "prying" task by a library card.

Ha! He's got a point. :)

Now that we have had our fun, on a serious note, it certainly would not be a test that would be applied to a knife to test quality, and I would not be disappointed in my knife , but myself if I had done it. There is no way you can expect a fine edge to hold up to that kind of test. IMHO anyway. Sorry you damaged your knife though.

So, I'm guessing that you found that a key is a better tool to use to open a locked door with than a knife is?.:D.

BTW...I am sorry to read that the blade of your Kershaw chipped.:(.

uh knives are cutting tools, not prying tools. I dont see a shaving edge on a library card. i am sry that the edge got damaged, but, imo, that was stupid to do.

agreed Dave.

just send it to kershaw... I'm sure they'll make you happy. But, let me ask... did you use the sharp edge for contact? I might have tried the spine of the blade first. Would love tyo see pics. It was probably 440A

I have also used my knives for such tasks. But never where the edge
came in contact with anything. Most of my knives that I carry are
large, like the Blur (Bump, Cuda,Spydie Mili, BM 975 etc..). Even
if all I had was a machete I would still protect the edge from contact somehow.

You should be able to fix that up with a decent sharpener. If you don't
have one, or are not certain you can, Kershaw would be more than
happy to sharpen it up for you I'm sure.

I wouldn't complain if I buggered my blade while using it as a pry bar.

Funny thing, same thing happened to me this weekend, only it was my fatther in law who was locked out of his house.he called my up and I was already on my way over. After a few minutes we decided the window would have to go.Mission accomplished but my mini cyclone sustained many scratches to both sides:grumpy:But it did the job and thats what I carry a knife for,to get me out of all kinds of jams.
