I’ve been ghost from the W&S for a while due to an injury. Now that I’m fixed and mending well, I have some making up to do. Today was another unseasonably pleasant January day. With a high in the 50s’s, my two sidekicks and I decided to head out for a squirrel hunt. We didn’t see any bushy tails; however we scored big on some fatwood (post # 2). It reminded me of VTguy17's post last month, so I thought I would share some pics :)

This trophy fatwood was taken with a Gerber Sportsman's Saw and processed with a mod Condor Golok and a mod CS Frontier Hawk :p

funny you mention that, its been oddly warm for this far north... we had one cold snap of -52 with wind chill, but nothing more. it was 40 today.

If it were ever -52 here, it wouldn’t be a cold snap. It would be the rapture. :D

45 here today, the trout went crazy. Forgot to stick the memory card in my camera but the fridge and freezer are full. Beautiful weekend allaround, the last 3 days were sunny, dry, and completely comfortable. Glad you're back out in the woods.

I looks like you and your 2 side kicks had a great time. Nice haul on getting the fat wood.

Wow, nice harvest! That about triples my last one. It's been an unreasonably warm January here to, which means it's been 10 degrees + :)

Glad your doing well, being outside is important for the healing process my friend.

We had 3 days of average weather during January, the rest of the time temperatures have been way above normal. Be careful out on the lakes, there is allot of nasty slush out there. And the rivers? Don't even think about venturing out on them.

looks like a good time. I love that the little guy decided to open carry his nice 6 shooter lol.

and the seasons are nuts right now. flowers are starting to pop here and tree's are starting to bloom. not good because we will probably get smashed in february and march.

I know, it's insane. I saw a maple beginning to bloom last Saturday. I foresee a bad cold snap messing our spring up significantly. Not to mention how bad the bugs are going to be this summer, with such a mild winter. Ha, I guess Al Gore was right. I wonder if he really did invent the internet after all.

How did I know that when I clicked on this thread I would see some ORANGE ! LOL ... Looks like fun in the Appalachian sun ....

Nice man. You can send me a piece of that fat wood if you want :D sorry about your dog :( did he eat what made him sick on that hunt? You know how warm its been here lately , now we are looking at 6-12 inches of snow by Friday . Take care man. Fish your phone out of the toilet .

Wooly Bugger- remember January 1985? Blizzard had us at -30 wind chill in Wythe County,Va.

My wife came from Phils last April and is pissed at no snow!! I showed her video and pics of snow in our yard for 2 years and now she is here and .............nothing. LOL!

Here in Roanoke, Yellow Jacket bushes have bloomed and Lillies are popping up. They are in for a nasty surprise, I am afraid.

It hit 73 here yesterday (Lexington, SC) and was 32 when I woke up this morning. I can't remember the last time I wore short sleeves to work in early February. Crazy weather. Nice find on the fat wood!

I remember indeed. It looks like our nasty surprise will be here in the morning. Getting a little chilly out there tonight. Snow with a wind chill of +5.....It's about time winter got here :D

He ate a piece of bark the size of a golf ball  $1200 worth of surgery later and he'll be fine. That is, if and I don't kill him first :)
