L. MT. BETHEL TWP. -- A Slate Belt dairy farmer used a knife to cut a child free from a car seat Tuesday after the vehicle in which she was riding smashed into a tree on Franklin Hill Road.

Hence the very reason why I carry a one hand opening blade. In my mostly around town daily routine a slip joint handles most tasks. But events such as in the story call for something quicker and perhaps larger. Solution? Carry both.

Just heard in an interview this morning that he used a Leatherman to cut the girl out, he said,"I never go anywhere without it, now I'm glad I had it with me."

So it sounds like it was a 3 year old girl, who was rescued, and her father was trapped in the car until emergancy crews arrived to get him out? I wonder how he is if he was left in the smoke filled car.

Glad to hear this guy was prepared with a knife, even if it was in a multi-tool. I'm sure there are stories like this happening every day we don't hear about. Imagine if the news reported stories like this everyday? I'm sure more people would carry knives and multi-tools thinking "I might have to rescue someone!"

Yea, they said he was in the hospital with serious head injuries, but that was all, I wonder if the farmer felt it was better to not move the driver because of the injuries, some times ya gotta choose.
